UNITED NEGOTIATIONS
UNITED NEGOTIATIONS; WEEK IN REVIEW
Rich Delaney, May 15, 2009 — Contract negotiations between District Lodge 141 and United Airlines were not scheduled to be held during the past week. Talks are planned to resume next week. This short break in face to face negotiations has allowed us to work on other business important to our membership.
Hawaiian Airlines Members
Rich Delaney, May 15, 2009 — Information meetings were held with the Hawaiian Airlines membership and negotiating team with District and Grand Lodge representatives. Contract talks on Hawaiian will reconvene the last week of May, after the membership rejection of a tentative agreement last month. While the tentative agreement was intended to provide a cash infusion for our membership and left other contractual issues unchanged, this next round of negotiations will once again address all of the member proposed topics that were exchanged with the Company in January 2008. A survey will be conducted through the District’s website to allow the Hawaiian membership to review and prioritize these proposals based on the current environment.
Tribute to ll1245
Rich Delaney, May 15, 2009 — Our visit to the Hawaiian islands allowed us to recognize the history and contributions to our Union of the officers and members of Local Lodge 1245. Local 1245 was disbanded by the Grand Lodge this month after the remaining members of Aloha Airlines voted to leave the IAM and join the Teamsters. Local 1245 was chartered in 1919. It is truly unfortunate that its 90 year history of support and representation has come to such an abrupt end. The Officers of LL 1245 fought to the very end trying to save their legacy in bankruptcy court by opposing the sale of the Aloha Airlines name to Go! Airlines while also fighting off the raid by the Teamsters. They were true trade unionists and will be greatly missed by District 141.
Education
Rich Delaney, May 15, 2009 — The District 141 Educators met in Chicago this week and conducted training for a new group of qualified Trainers. This group is now prepared to conduct Shop Steward and Committee training on site at local lodges throughout the District. Local Lodges interested in having the District Educators present training for their representatives should contact District 141 at (847) 640-2222.
