The contract with your airline employer is the single most visible service provided at the district level of your Union. Embedded in this service are negotiators, attorneys, financial analysts and office administrators.
The district also involves itself in the most serious grievances of Members against the company. Typically these grievances have already gone through steps aimed at resolution at local levels. When grievances cannot be solved by Shop Stewards for example, they may be escalated to the AGC (or Assistant General Chair) for higher level assistance.
Beyond contract and grievances
IAM District 141 is a workplace leader in education, safety, and confidential employee assistance in times of hardship through its EAP (Employee Assistance Program). District 141 is an advocate of F.M.L.A., the Family Medical Leave Act protecting Members against unfair discipline when illness strikes. The district also hosts committees dedicated to special concerns shared by women on the job, and retirees. There is also a full time office staff to assist with any administrative issue you may have.
