Shop Stewards are IAM members appointed or elected by
fellow employees in each work area and shift. A Steward’s main function is
to monitor the administration of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. They
explain Agreement provisions to their fellow employees and assist in
bringing complaints to the attention of the Supervisors or other
management people. The Steward also assists fellow members during the
course of a company investigation into alleged misconduct.
This handbook will help the most experienced as well as the
newest Shop Stewards to understand the importance of their role within the
structure of the IAM.
