Hemenway Letter to Fleet Service

Company to Union 01.23.08

Dear Sisters and Brothers:

This is in response to VP Al Hemenway’s letter to you last week dated February 29, 2008, wherein Mr. Hemenway outlined and highlighted several points of the Company proposal presented to your Negotiating Committee on January 22, 2008.

In his written comments to you, Mr. Hemenway overlooked some points in the Company’s proposal that were also included. In the interest of full disclosure and responding to the member’s questions, we are posting the Company’s proposal for your review and own assessment.

Here are a few points contained in the Company’s proposal which were not mentioned by Mr. Hemenway.

Art. 2 - Deleted Change of Control language.

Art. 3 - Scope improvements for the 18 West Cities removed. Cargo work in PHX, LAS, and LAX only protected until12/31/11.

Art 4 - Removed the restriction on Part-Time Lead Agents.

Art 5 - Removed language providing 26 “minimum” swaps.

Art 7 - Removed the elimination of 60 day rule going forward.

Art 12 - Removed the increase from 120 days to 9 months for Medical/Dental benefits after the last compensated day as a result of occupational injury.

Art 23 - Removed the 10 cent increase in the pension 1/3/11 for Full-Time and Part-Time.

Art 28- Removed space positive language for AGCs.

Art 30- Lowered pay increases in 1/1/10 and 1/1/11 from 2% to 1.5%. Pay Transition spread out over 14 months from 6 months for West and Class 2.

Profit sharing going forward was deleted.

Art 31- Duration language that called for early negotiations and a 2% increase if we did not get a contract by July 2012 was removed.

All of the Snap Backs were removed. This included sick leave, holidays, shift premiums, and overtime provisions.

You now have the opportunity to review the entire proposal and understand your Negotiating Committee’s response as well at www.iam141.org. The Company proposals speak for themselves and it is what it is.

Fraternally and in Solidarity,

S.R. (Randy) Canale

US Airways Displays True Colors Toward Fleet Service Workers

Union Proposal to the Company

Company Response to the Union

During negotiations this week in Philadelphia, US Airways presented your IAM negotiating committee a proposal that unmistakably conveys the company’s disrespect and contempt towards its Fleet Service Workers.

While the company enjoys $3 billion dollars in cash reserves it refuses to fairly compensate the very workers responsible for returning the company from the brink of extinction. US Airways executives continue to reap huge salaries and bonuses while they try to inflict further economic hardship upon its workforce.

We have already suffered reduced salaries, benefits and demoralizing corporate leadership. Two years into this merger transition, which produced close to a billion dollars in profit and excessive management bonuses, the company continues to pay bankruptcy wages to workers and retains the potential to outsource over 1,000 of our jobs.

The same company that abused bankruptcy laws to forcibly extract concessions through two bankruptcies and three restructured agreements continues to stuff their pockets on the backs of its dedicated employees. You generated the profits, not management. The airline’s demonstration of executive greed is unconscionable.
Although US Airways’ workers have been the target of corporate abuse, the traveling public, US Airways’ economic lifeblood, are also victims of the company’s poor management and inexcusable customer service.

As the airline industry threatens further consolidation, the US Airways/America West merger serves as an example of what will occur on a broader scale if mega-mergers are not stopped. Because of management’s contempt for workers and indifference toward passengers, the integration of America West /US Airways is farther from being completed today than it was two years ago.
